A calm, coordinated approach
Stress rarely stays in your head. It shows up as a clenched jaw, shoulders that will not drop, a stomach that reacts before you do, and 3 a.m. wakeups where everything feels larger than it is.
At Acupuncture of West Florida in Clearwater, Dr. Kim Windschauer, AP treats that physical side of stress — the nervous system stuck in high alert — so the body can come down and sleep can return.
This is supportive care used alongside whatever else you have in place. We do not diagnose mental health conditions and we do not change medication. If we do not think acupuncture is the right fit for you, we will say so at the consultation.

The research
Evidence & guidelines
Acupuncture has been studied for anxiety symptoms and for insomnia, with trials and systematic reviews reporting improvement for some patients compared with usual care or sham treatment. Study quality varies and findings are not uniform. Acupuncture is best understood as supportive care for symptoms of stress and sleep disturbance, used alongside counseling, medical care and good sleep habits rather than in place of them.

Questions
Frequently asked questions
Can acupuncture help anxiety and stress?+
Many people use acupuncture for the physical side of stress — a racing heart, tight chest and shoulders, a mind that will not switch off. Published trials report reductions in anxiety symptoms for some patients, though results vary and acupuncture is not a treatment for a diagnosed psychiatric condition. Dr. Kim will give you an honest read at your consultation.
Will it help me sleep?+
Sleep is one of the most common reasons people come in, and it is often the first thing that shifts. We look at the whole pattern — trouble falling asleep, waking at the same hour each night, or waking unrefreshed — because each responds differently.
Is this a replacement for therapy or medication?+
No. Acupuncture here is supportive care used alongside counseling, therapy or anything your physician has prescribed. We do not diagnose mental health conditions, we never advise anyone to stop or change a prescribed medication, and we are glad to work alongside your providers.
What does a session feel like?+
Most people describe a brief pinch, then a heavy, settled calm — a fair number fall asleep on the table. Sessions run about 45 minutes in a quiet, private room.
How many sessions before I notice something?+
People often feel calmer the same evening, but lasting change in sleep and baseline anxiety usually takes a short series. You get a written plan with a session count and cost at your first visit — no open-ended packages.
Do you take insurance?+
We are a self-pay practice. We provide a superbill you can submit for possible out-of-network reimbursement, and HSA and FSA cards are accepted. Call 727-490-6060 for current pricing.
Where are you located?+
