We all experience a variety of emotions every day. This is part of being human. Ideally, these emotions will flow in and out of your consciousness. This is a healthy response to emotions.  Sometimes, however, emotions can get stuck. When this happens, it seems as if we mentally are in a space that feels heavy, dark, disconnected, or negative. Sometimes this feeling hangs on for what feels like too long. As these feelings linger and grow, you may begin to “feel” your emotion in the way of an upset stomach, headaches, fatigue, and palpitations. These are just a few symptoms that can come from stuck emotion.

Acupuncture can help resolve the feeling of being stuck in an emotion. Through the insertion of very tiny needles into specific acupuncture points, hormones such as serotonin, dopamine, and norepinephrine become balanced. Since these are mood hormones, regulation of these hormones will help address stuck emotion. Acupuncture also stimulates the body’s own natural production of endorphins, which initiate a sense of wellbeing, while at the same time activates our mechanism of internal relaxation, the parasympathetic nervous system.

“Chronic stress from negative attitudes and feelings of helplessness and hopelessness can upset the body’s hormone balance and deplete the brain chemicals required for feelings of happiness, as well as have a damaging impact on the immune system… Poorly managed or repressed anger(hostility) is also related to a slew of health conditions, such as hypertension, cardiovascular disease, digestive disorders, and infection.  Dr. Barbara Fredrickson from the Center for Spirituality & Healing at the University of Minnesota
